ACTIVITY DURING PANDEMIC:

 

During the first wave and second wave of COVID-19 pandemic, I was actively involved in treating cardiac patients (both COVID & non-COVID). I have performed various cardiac procedures numbering about 450 during the pandemic period. This involves plenty of patients with financial assistance. We are one of the very few centers offering cardiac treatment for all kinds of patients.

 

ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS

 

§  Always been a distinction holder and won many prizes for academic excellence. 

§  Played hockey and cricket for the class/college teams.  Member of the cricket team which won the All India Inter-medical Runners Up

§  A member of the NCC Army Wing. 

§  Member of college council.  Organized a tour to Delhi, Agra and Kashmir during Final Year.

§  Active member in the college Medical Relief Wing which used to conduct free clinics in Neelankarai.

SURGICAL EXPERIENCE

 

§  Performed more than 20,500 surgeries including congenital, valve, CABG, aneurysm repair, ROSS procedure, Beating Heart surgery, Heart Transplant.

 

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

  • Running an active DNB Cardiothoracic program through which many surgeons were trained and graduated. At present, there are 15 post graduates in various levels of training.
  • Conducted more than 100 workshops and meetings in The Madras Medical Mission to facilitate training for young trainees in Cardiology and Cardiac surgery.

 

SERVICE ACTIVITIES

 

§  Member of the hospital Medical Board. 

 

§  Incharge for conducting free Cardiac screening camps organized by The Madras Medical Mission.  Conducted more than 40 camps in the last ten years for the rural poor in Tamil Nadu and free screening camps in East Africa.  Also helps patient to get treatment by arranging funds from various sources.  Organized welfare program to treat poor children and adults with Lions and Rotary Clubs. Through these camps and welfare program more than 800 rural patients who otherwise did not have access for medical care were operated successfully.

 

§  Founder Chairman of National Heart Foundation (NHF), a charitable trust, which helped more than 915 patients to undergo cardiac treatment in the last six years.  Recipient of many awards from various Lions and Rotary Clubs for philanthropic work. 

 

§  Elected as Secretary of the Indian Association of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeons (IACTS) for the term 2013-2016 & 2016-2019. Served as an Executive Member for 3 years in IACTS Executive Committee, and Organizing Secretary of CTCON 2011 in Chennai and Organizing Secretary for combined ASCVTS – IACTSCON 2019, Chennai. Also involved in various educational and training activities of the association.

 

§  Selected as Councillor in Asian Society for Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery (ASCVTS) from 2019
