Padma Shri Dr G. Bakthavathsalam

Dr. G. Bakthavathsalam is an eminent surgeon, philanthropist, a dedicated teacher and founder of world class health care institutions.

He is an alumni of Madras Medical College, and Mt.inai Hospital, Chicago (USA); he was the Visiting Professor in twelve countries.

He is the Chairman & Managing Trustee of K.G. Hospital & Post Graduate Medical Institute, Coimbatore, Chairman of K.G. College of Health Sciences, K.G. Healthcare & KG Information Systems ltd. He has set up a 'model' multi and super specialty hospital, which effectively delivers international health care services at affordable cost. He has been responsible for putting Coimbatore in the medical map of India. He firmly believes that Medical Tourism will revolutionize the image and economy of India.

• Over Rs.230 Crores worth of concessions provided to the poorer sections of the society
• Screened over 1 million people in rural villages free of cost through medical camps
• Under his leadership, KG Hospital has performed 85,000 eye surgeries free of cost and over 2500 heart surgeries free of cost
• KG Hospital's bloodbank supports around 4000 thalassemia patients with free blood
• The National Board of Examinations has recognized K.G. Hospital for conducting postgraduate courses in 11 specialties and the hospital received a National Award for Excellence in Teaching.
• Conducted more than 10,000 continuing medical education programmes & over 2,000 health awareness programmes for the common public
• Provided relief during national disasters such as Coimbatore Bomb Blast, Kargil War, Gujarat Earth quake, Kumbakonam school fire tragedy, Tsunami victims, Thane cyclone,
